Aromatherapy is one of the most effective, non-evasive ways to overcome infertility. For some, simply inhaling essential oils can help balance fertility hormones and strengthen reproductive organs.
Using essential oils while trying to conceive can be an important practice for some as they have a significant impact on reducing stress, strengthening the immune system and improving the functioning of key reproductive organs.
While using essential oils can be something used as part of an overall healthy lifestyle, the trick is in knowing which essential oils will do the job that’s needed for boosting fertility.
How Aromatherapy Effects Fertility
There is no doubt that external elements affect the body internally. In fact, a lot of the pollution breathed in from the air and applied on the skin through beauty products can have a significantly negative impact on female fertility.
This is due to how the membranes in the nose and skin work. The hypothalamus, considered the “master gland” in the brain, is responsible for many of the things that can help boost fertility.
The hypothalamus essentially produces many of the body’s hormones and chemical properties that affect different organs. The hormones from the hypothalamus regulate hunger, thirst, sleep and mood.
More importantly, the hypothalamus controls the production of hormones most associated with boosting fertility. These are sex hormones, serotonin and growth hormones.
Because of that, using essential oils to stimulate the production of hormones directly related to fertility is essential. When certain essential oils are inhaled, the hypothalamus produces specific hormones that affect the adrenal and reproductive glands.
Plants and concentrated essential oils that are plant-based can stimulate and regulate essential fertility hormones. These are known as phytohormonal plants because they contain human hormone mimicking properties.
In addition to aromatherapy, oils can also be diluted with a carrier oil, such as fractionated coconut oil or jojoba oil, and be applied topically in a roll-on or massage oil.
Essential Oils That Impact Fertility:
Rose Otto has a few different benefits when it comes to boosting fertility.
First, it improves the production of cervical mucus. This is important because “egg white” cervical mucus is the most fertile type of CM. It allows the sperm to swim more easily into the cervix than other types of CM. Due to this effect it is helpful to use 2-3 drops in a healing bath.
Second, it helps in regulating the menstrual cycle. Having a consistent menstrual cycle is important in trying to conceive because it provides a way to track ovulation days. In fact, 30 to 40 percent of infertility has to do with irregular periods.
Third, rose otto is a great mood regulator. This oil has been used as a libido booster and treats depression and grief.
Rose Otto is very potent. It should be noted that a few drops of this oil go a long way.
Using this essential oil is great when trying to conceive. But it is not recommended to use this during or after ovulation, especially if there is a history of miscarriage. Because this oil can potentially help stimulate menstruation, it is also not recommended during pregnancy. For the best results, it is recommended to use only a few drops in aromatherapy or healing baths, and used only up until ovulation while trying to conceive.
Lavender oil is also extremely soothing and works great for stimulating the immune system, correcting mood swings, PMS or hormonal imbalances.
This is more of an everyday type of essential oil because it has many general benefits that boost fertility by default. It has a pleasant smell that’s not too strong and can be used as part of a healthy daily routine.
It is not recommended to use or continue using lavender oil after ovulation and during pregnancy.
Clary Sage Oil
Clary sage oil is effective in balancing key fertility hormones, mainly estrogen. This ultimately helps create and maintain a regular menstrual cycle.
Clary sage has also been used as a pain reliever and a remedy for depression and anxiety. It also has aphrodisiac effects as well.
The most beneficial aspect of clary sage is that it is a uterine tonic. That means it has a toning, strengthening and therapeutic impact on the uterus.
Fennel Essential Oil
Fennel oil has a strong effect on regulating estrogen levels and is one of the most vital phytoestrogenic oils around. Fennel has been around for thousands of years and is also one of the more common oils used for boosting female fertility.
Because of its estrogenic effects, fennel oil will help create and maintain a regular menstrual cycle and reduce unstable hormones.
Aromatherapy is an easy and effective way to improve fertility. All of the oils mentioned can be found at most major health food stores or online.
